Mission: To maximise the long term sales and profit of Confectionery through superior understanding and fulfilment of consumer and shopper needs, to be recognised by retail partners as best in class operators

1 - Main Purpose of Job

To lead/support in the development of Lindt as Category Experts in the chocolate confectionery market, within a specific developing account or channel or developed account specific sub category.

To lead/support the development of the category partnership within an account to drive their confectionery offering through category management tools – specifically market data analysis and insight, research analysis and insights, and ranging and merchandising

To interpret and effectively execute brand plans within an account team.

To provide category analysis and insight for other key accounts and channels as required, on a project basis.


2 - Key Responsibilities

o Become the category expert for the named customer or channels, able to support sales teams with category insight and advise on how to gain distribution for priority Lindt SKU’s.

o Support Category Plans, and lead Range Reviews in Developing Customers and channels as required

o Support Lindt category vision and range priorities, planograms

o Support the Lindt vision for in store execution – AYR & seasons

o Support other category projects as required

o Category analysis, insight and reporting

o Ongoing analysis and interpretation of customer and channel level data from retailer systems and market data (IRI, Kantar, dunnhumby etc) to identify category opportunities

o Tracking of customer performance vs. KPIs including risks and opportunities, NPD tracking etc

o Support Senior Category Manager with regular category/Lindt performance updates, and identify key opportunities within developing customers, eg. Coop, Boots.

o Support the Lindt internal selling and IBP process as required

o Managing and supporting customer category range reviews and seasonal reviews

o Build ongoing relationships with key customer category and buying contacts

o Use of insights to influence range and distribution, from breadth and depth perspective, by format and affluence tier as required

o Influence Lindt range, space and merchandising opportunities by being able to lead and advise customers.

o Work towards achieving Lindt targets within key account around share of space/sales, planogram development, distribution targets etc

o Implement Category Plans with customers

o Support the development of category plans, projects and trials within a developing customer.

o Support Senior Category Manager and Customer marketing team to create and deliver the Lindt Shopper vision within a developing customer or channel

o Lead category projects in other Grocery and Impulse customers as required

3 - Working relationships

This development role will demand good interpersonal and influencing skills to build and maintain relationships with key internal and external contacts:
  • Emerging & Key Leaders

  • Shopper Marketing Team
  • Commercial team
  • Developing external Customers and Contacts across Category teams
  • Operational experience of agency relationships eg. IRI, Nielsen
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience Required


  • Undergraduate degree preferred (minimum 2:1).
  • Experience as a category exec or data analyst, within the FMCG environment (min 2 years)
  • Knowledge of category management principles
  • Understanding shopper/consumer/market insights and how these drive category growth in retailers
  • Understanding brand strategies and interpreting these into Account level plans, down to format/affluence/regional tiers
  • Understanding how customer range reviews are managed to deliver category sales growth
  • Tracking performance vs. targets – monthly reporting of key category management KPI’s
  • Producing and implementing planograms
  • Excellent numeracy, analytical and data interpretation skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Nielsen/IRI, TNS,
  • Working knowledge of merchandising and planogramming systems e.g. Virtual Shelf
  • Developing communication and presentation skills
  • Good Microsoft Office skills (all) – especially Excel & PowerPoint.
  • Developing interpersonal skills, able to work successfully independently and within an internal team
  • Curious about learning, with drive for development and responsibility
  • Able manage own objectives independently and take responsibility for own account responsibilities.
  • A high level of creativity and passion – be able to take any data and turn into strong insights
